Blackjack is an old car game – much older than you think. As with most card games, it is believed that Spanish sailors invented it, but at exactly when, we do not know. The first reference of the blackjack game comes from a surprising source: Miguel de Cervantes. In his tale named Rinconete y Cortadillo, he defines a game that the objective is to reach 21 points without going over. This is a story written in 1601, so the history of the game goes at least to 16th century, which makes the blackjack one of the oldest card games around.
The term “blackjack” comes from the casinos and it is fairly new. When this game introduced to the casinos, owners decided to add one more hand into it – ace of spades and jack of clubs. Jack of clubs also called as blackjack, and this hand has the biggest payout in the game. Today, it means a hand of an ace and any of the face cards, which means 21 and instant win. Another interesting info about the blackjack is that all of the casinos must have this game; this is a legal requirement. In the USA, all casinos must serve at least one card game that has a possibility of %100 winning odds. Blackjack is that
game – in theory, you can win all of the blackjack games if you are a… well, mathematical genius.

How to play blackjack you ask? Blackjack is a simple casino game to learn but difficult to master. It is played against the dealer. Each game can be played with three people, or one gambler can play with all of the betting boxes. (Many USA casinos do not allow betting more than one box though.) The dealer gives the player two face-down cards, and takes one face-up, one face-down card for himself/herself. (The face-down card is called “hole card”.) The goal is that to create card totals that are higher than the dealer’s hand but not more than 21. When it is the player’s turn, he/she can keep asking for more cards by saying “hit”. “Stand” means no more cards are wanted and “double” means doubling the wager. If a player stands, the dealer must continue on playing. At the end, if his/her card total is higher than the player, dealer wins. The dealer can bust too of course, which means his/her total has exceeded 21. The cards with number values counts as their natural value, face cards (kings, queens, and jacks) count as 10, aces are valued as 1 or 11 according to the player’s choice.
Blackjack Game Strategy
How to win at blackjack is a “popular” question amongst the gamblers. As we mentioned above, winning in this game is always possible, but not easy. The most basic strategy of blackjack is the card counting. You can even use blackjack strategy card or blackjack strategy charts to do this, but beware; almost all of the casinos will ask you to leave the premises if you do that. Card counting is not illegal, but every casino has a right to refuse service too.
Basically, with card counting, you raise your bet when you have the advantage – for example when there are many face cards left in the deck. In other words, the simplest form of card counting requires only counting of the face cards. When there are many, increase your bet. If there are none, pass that hand. There are tricks for more advanced counting techniques, such as grouping the scratch cards and scoring them based on colors and signs. Even the simplest form of it will raise your winning odds, but to win at each time, you need to be really, and we mean really good. Some MIT students tried this in the past and won hundreds of millions of dollars – it is still possible. (You can read about this story by searching for “MIT Blackjack Team”.)
Looking for the most simple and basic strategy? Always stand if you hit the card total of 16. Mathematical analyzes show us this is the best total for maximum winning odds. While it won’t guarantee that you win, your odds are significantly higher.
